Hero

The hero has been completely revised. As soon as your account is open you already have a hero.

The hero can be sent as reinforcement to other villages like every other unit. However if the village is yours and has a hero's mansion in it you can use the hero from this village as if it had been created there.

Depending on your selected Travian tribe, a hero will gain one special tribe ability. Those special abilities cannot be upgraded by the player:

When a hero is created he has 4 skill points that are set to his resource production. Ability levels can be increased up to level 100. Each time a hero gains a level he earns 4 additional ability points that can be used to increase his 4 ability levels.

This is the Attributes tab, where you can spend the hero experience points.

  • Fighting strength:

Points put into this ability increase the attack and defence value of the hero. Please note that your hero count as cavalry in case he is equipped with a horse and as infantry in case he is not equipped with a horse.

  • Off bonus:

Points put into this ability increase the attack value of the whole army by 0.2% per point (maximum of 20%). This bonus only applies if the hero is attacking with the army.

  • Def bonus:

Points put into this ability increase the defence value of the whole army by 0.2% per point (maximum of 20%) This bonus only applies if the hero is defending with the army. Other defending troops not under your control will remain unaffected by this bonus.

  • Resources:

Points put into this ability increase the resource output of the village where the Hero is located. You can opt to increase production of one resource only or to evenly spread the bonus across all resources. It still remains one skill. You can freely change that setting.

Points available to be “Spent” are shown at the end of the experience line (3) to spend these just click the “+” sign where you wish to allocate the points.

On Travian 4 your hero now only gains 4 skill points per level.

Below that we can see our hero and any equipment we have plundered from Adventures (More on that later)

On an earlier adventure, I plundered a horse, so my hero is now mounted and therefore move faster. I also gained a spear which adds to the strength of my hero.

In the boxes are things that I have not yet used, 1 Artwork, 1 Horn of the Natarian, 1 Book of Wisdom and 14 cages

There are 2 types of items: Armour/Weapon and Equipment

  • Armour/Weapon
There are 35 different Armour/Weapon item types. Each of those have 3 levels of quality. The higher the quality the more bonuses given. You cannot improve the quality of the items, but you can find and trade in items of all quality levels.
  • Equipment
A Hero can use one equipment item. Those items can be stacked in the inventory if you find more than one. So they will only use one inventory slot per type. Equipment items are more common than Armour and Weapon items. If a player uses such an item, the item will be
    consumed and will vanish.

For a full list of items click here

Note the tick box at the bottom – keeping your hero alive is important at the start of the game so if this box is ticked your hero will not defend your village if you are attacked, so will not be killed if you lose the attack.

This is the Appearance tab, where you can spend time making your hero look prettier or uglier

This is the Adventures tab, the adventures appear at random (You get a lot at the start of the game but they slow down a bit as you progress. There are two Danger levels of adventure, Normal and Hard. During any adventure your hero will lose health, so you should check your current health level on the attributes tab, before sending the hero on an adventure. To send, just click on “to the adventure”

The first 10 adventures will give you the following bonuses, in no particular order

1x nothing but experience

1x Horse

2x resources*

2x silver**

1x Troops (basic unit of own tribe, 3 units to be exact)

1x a number of cages

1x a book of wisdom

1x a number of ointments

*my 2nd and 4th adventures gave the following
Bounty  Lumber622 Clay622 Iron1244 Crop622

Bounty Lumber613 Clay1225 Iron613 Crop613

So I would recommend a warehouse at least level 3 before starting adventures

** Silver can be used to buy more items from other players – See “Auctions” below

You are only sending your hero on the adventure, so be sure to click “Start adventure” and not “Raid unoccupied oasis”. You do get the chance to confirm your action with the screen below.

This is the Auctions tab, here you can buy and sell items. Clicking the tab will show you all current auctions and you can bid on any items you need (providing you have enough silver). If you are looking for specific items you can click on the corresponding icon so you only see those items.

It is worth spending some time on here and looking at the prices that items sell for, as knowing the current price will help you when you decide to start bidding yourself.

Here is the Auction screen filtered to show just ointments. The top 6 on the list are all around 30 silver per unit, but the 7th is almost 40 silver per unit, after that the price drops dramatically (but people will raise the price by bidding later). On this server at the moment Ointments are averaging 32 silver per unit, so if I wanted ointments I would be bidding somewhere close to that price.
